Seaplane fly in

Travels with the Maine blueberry!  This weekend was the annual international seaplane fly in, in Greenville Maine (see below).  Greenville is the "gateway" to Moosehead lake and the surrounding region.  Moosehead is the largest lake in New England and surrounded by endless wilderness!!!

"Lily Bay state park" (pictured above)...Just north of the lake is the infamous "Golden Road", still a logging road but, it is used by the locals to access the Allagash Wilderness, Baxter State Park, and Maine's 100 mile wilderness.  We drove for 20-30 mins or so and found ourselves in Kokadjo; the last stop prior to miles and miles of dirt road.

Local acquisitions

Our professor friends (Umaine) invited us over to pick blueberries on their land...Endless fields of delicious berries!!!  and what can we say, Lobster..ummm!  These pictured were prepared at the Maine lobster festival in Rockland...they have been 3.50/lb all summer!!!

day trippin'

Acadia NP (top) and Baxter state park are amazing places that are accessible in a day.  There is endless wilderness in Baxter and Acadia is breathtaking...lots of exploring to do!

Our Backyard!!!

There are miles and miles of trails out the front door for running, biking, and apparently skiing here in a few months!!!  Additionally, the penobscot/stillwater are rivers here in town that are not only picturesque but are also renowned small mouth bass fisheries.  Atlantic run salmon actually inhabit the river as well but they are a prohibited fishery due to their numbers...The damns are coming down though on the river to facilitate the return of the spawning fish.

Our humble abode

We're renting this unique superbly restored old 1800s farm house.  There is plenty of room for guests (hint hint!!) and we can easily walk down to the bars and restaurants of Orono.
